Our newest Women of the World Series coffee comes from a cooperative in central Mexico. The community is of indigenous Mayan ancestry and is led by 222 women who oversee 475 hectares of land. They grow both their own food and coffee to sell on this land.

Por Mas Cafe is a program run by the Mexican government to aid coffee production and producers. Its goal is to provide education and resources for farmers to thrive as coffee producers, while also ensuring they are fairly and consistently paid for their product. It can help producers pay for and work towards the expensive (up front cost) Rainforest Alliance Certification which will allow producers to receive higher profit over time for their coffee.

These farms are run using traditional methods passed down through the generations. They need to keep the ecosystem balanced as the land is also their source of food. Many coffee growing communities around the world use these "agroforestry" methods to grow their coffee. Almost all these agroforestry communities would qualify for Rainforest Alliance Certification, but very few can afford the cost associated with getting the actual certificate to be guaranteed a higher price for their coffee.
